Katy Perry Is Billboard's Woman of the Year

Katy Perry will take home the Woman of the Year
Award at the 2012 Billboard Women in Music event on
Friday, Nov. 30, in New York City, capping off a year
that's seen the pop star break chart records, release a
3D feature film and bring her candy-colored tour all over
the world.
"Katy Perry broke into the industry not even five years
ago, and has already accomplished more than most
artists can hope for in anentire career," Bill Werde,
Billboard's editorial director, says. "We are thrilled to
celebrate these incredible achievements and her
amazing past 12 months by honoring her with the
Billboard Woman of the Year Award. With what seems
like a never-ending supply of record-breaking, chart-
topping hits, coupled with her unique and fresh style,
Katy Perry is hands-down one of the most exciting and
inspiring artists in the industry today."
Billboard's annual Women in Music Event, now in its
seventh year, celebrates the most powerful and talented
women in the music business, coinciding with the
publication of Billboard's Women in Music Power
Playerslist. This year's event will be taking place on
Friday, Nov. 30 at Capitale in New York City. Previous
honorees include Taylor Swift, Fergie and Beyoncé.

was sort of attached to that old look.

Hong Kong Tycoon Offers $65 Million “Marriage Bounty” To Any Man Who Will Marry His Lesbian Daughter

A Hong Kong tycoon has offered a $65 million
"marriage bounty" to any man who can win the
heart of his lesbian daughter, a report said
Wednesday. Cecil Chao announced the financial
reward of HK$500 million after his daughter, Gigi,
married her same-sex partner of seven years in
France earlier this year, the South China Morning
Post reported.
"I don't mind whether he is rich or poor. The
important thing is that he is generous and kind
hearted," 76-year-old Chao was quoted as saying.
"Gigi is a very good woman with both talents and
looks. She is devoted to her parents, is generous and
does volunteer work," he added.
He also rejected "false reports" that Gigi, 33, had
married abroad, saying she was still single. Chao,
who owns publicly-listed property developer Cheuk
Nang, could not be reached for comment. Same-sex
marriages are not recognised in Hong Kong, a
socially conservative Chinese city where
homosexuality was decriminalised in 1991.

Snoop Dogg on His Movie 'Reincarnation'

The former gangbanger turned hip-hop
mogul is as relevant as ever at age 40, with a
string of chart-topping singles, a new movie
and a lucrative line of Snoop-approved
endorsements.
Indeed, Snoop, who these days has renamed himself
Snoop Lion (more on that later), certainly follows his own
set of rules -- if he follows any at all. Courting
controversy while playing role model, coach and parent,
the former gangbanger has had a hand in selling about
50 million albums and is ranked No. 14 on Forbes' list of
hip-hop's top 20 earners, with estimated annual income
of $8.5 million -- seemingly undervalued judging by
Snoop's smirked reaction: "I must've been coaching
football that year," he cracks. Just as impressive, 2012
marked the rapper's 20th anniversary since first
appearing as Dr. Dre's sidekick in the video for "Deep
Cover."
And at 40, an age when most MCs would long ago have
hung up their hoodies, Snoop maintains an astonishing
relevance (just ask any white suburban boy who
punctuates phrases with "izzle"). He's outperformed
former contemporaries like P. Diddy and outlived
departed greats such as Notorious B.I.G. and his
lifelong friend Nate Dogg (whose March 2011 death
from multiple strokes remains an unhealed wound). An
in-demand international touring act who in April
headlined two weekends at the 70,000-person-strong
Coachella, where he shared the stage with a hologram
of the late Tupac Shakur as well as rap heavies Dr. Dre
and Eminem, Snoop also shoots and edits his own
online satirical newscast (recent guests on GGN, the
Double G Network: Paris Hilton and rapper-turned-
actor-turned-director RZA), is a global ambassador for
Adidas and CEO of his very own Snoopermarket, selling
everything from $32 house slippers to, yes, official
Snoop Dogg rolling papers.

But what's getting Snoop the most attention these days
is his role as CEO of Snoopadelic Films, whose titles
include the straight-to-DVD (at Snoop's insistence, he
says) Mac & Devin Go to High School, co-starring next-
gen stoner rapper Wiz Khalifa (released by Anchor Bay
in 2010, it has sold about 200,000 copies). Snoop's latest
project, the making-of-an-album documentary
Reincarnated, recently premiered at the Toronto
International Film Festival.

The movie in itself is about Snoop's journey -- both
figuratively and literally: as thug from the east side of
Long Beach (where 20 percent of its residents live below
the poverty line) to cultural icon, rapper to reggae star
in the genre's homeland of Jamaica, and from vapid
celebrity to the reawakened, spiritually sound Snoop
Lion. Soon after unveiling the doc in New York City in
July, Snoop started making waves when he claimed to
be reggae legend Bob Marley reborn, stating quite
simply, "I am Bob Marley reincarnated." The headline-
grabbing declaration made the mainstream news rounds
in an instant and was a no-brainer punch line for late-
night monologues. Surprisingly, however, it didn't ruffle
the Marley family's feathers. Not only do Marley scions
Damian and Rohan appear in the movie, but for good
measure, the latter sat in the front row at Snoop's
summer press conference so he could go on the record
and say: "Music is universal. … We don't separate
ourselves. We embrace Snoop. We love Snoop Lion."

South African Company Rakes Up 63percent In Dangote Flour

South African consumer goods firm Tiger Brands said
on Tuesday Nigerian authorities had cleared its 1.5
billion rand ($181.98 million) purchase of a majority
stake in Nigeria's Dangote Flour Mills.
The deal, which is the firm's third, is the biggest in the
Nigerian flour market.
"Tiger Brands believes, particularly for consumer
goods, that the potential of the Nigerian market is
significant," the company said in a statement.
Tiger Brands will acquire just over 63 percent of
Dangote Flour, a flour and pasta maker owned by
billionaire industrialist Aliko Dangote.
The company is the second largest flour milling
company in Nigeria with a market share of about 30
percent. It also has about 40 percent of the country's
pasta market.
Tiger Brands has been ramping up its expansion in
fast-growing African markets and last year increased
its footprint outside its home base with acquisitions in
Nigeria and Ethiopia.

Reasons Why Chuddy K Was Dropped From Headies

It was an initial shock to many fans of talented rising
artiste, Chuddy K, when news filtered out that he has
been taken off the nominees list for the "Next Rated"
category of The Headies 2012 Awards. But a statement
from the organisers of the popular Nigerian Awards
ceremony, The Headies, revealed why he was dropped
from the list.
According to the organisers, an evidence has emerged
that Chuddy K has previously released an album titled: I
Am Me in 2010, which disqualified him from the
category meant for debutants.
The statement reads: "This is to announce that talented
rising artiste, Chuddy K, has been taken off the
nominees list for the "Next Rated" category of The
Headies 2012 Awards. Judges of the prestigious annual
music awards have taken Chuddy K off the Next Rated
category and have now replaced him with talented
rapper, Flowssick.
Meanwhile, Pop stars, Psquare and alternative singer,
Bez, have emerged the highest nominees for this year's
edition of The Headies, Nigeria's leading awards for
urbane music and hip hop/pop culture.
Psquare, who have had an interesting year in music,
with ground breaking collaborations, chart-topping
videos, and bestselling concerts, packed six big
nominations, including nods for 'Album of the year',
'Artiste of the year', and 'Song of the year.
Bez, a rapidly rising singer-musician, who is winning
accolades from fans and critics, is this year's other
major contender with six nominations. Bez is up for
'Revelation of the year', 'Best Vocal Performance (male)'
and 'Best Collabo' as well as 'Best R&B/Pop Single' and
'Best R&B/Pop album'.
Psquare and Bez are closely followed by A-listers, Wizkid,
Davido and Ice Prince, who grabbed four nominations
each. Praiz, who continues to grow as a singer to court,
also got four nods from the awards committee.
Some other nominees include Naeto C (3), Chuddy K (3),
D'Banj (3), Wande Coal (3), Tiwa Savage (2), Iyanya (2),
Brymo (2), Terry G (1), Waje (1) and Cobhams (2).
The Headies 2012 is scheduled to hold at Eko Hotels and
Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos on Sunday 20 October.
