Christopher Nolan Gives Praise for ‘Man of Steel’

Now that famed director Christopher Nolan has chosen to hang up the cape and cowl, he’s wasted no time in promoting his next project, Man of Steel. Nolan served as a producer for the Superman reboot and, naturally, has nothing but good things to say about it.
“I wouldn’t want people to think we’re doing for Superman what we did for Batman,” Nolan said. “It’s very much Zack’s film and I think people are going to love what he’s done.”
Christopher Nolan is of course referring to Man of Steel director Zack Snyder, who’s other work – for better and for worse – includes 2006′s now iconic 300, 2009′s critically acclaimed Watchmen, and last year’s somewhat stale Sucker Punch. Nolan has nothing but faith in what Snyder has put together for the character of Superman.

’2016′ Producer Says the Doc was Snubbed by Oscars Because of Politics

You gotta love right-wing filmmakers. Whenever they make a awful movie, they can just claim that the “liberal media” is spreading lies, and that their work is actually super-terrific, and would be making billions if only Big Hollywood weren’t suppressing them. And come Oscar season, there will be even more bellyaching of this nature. There’s not likely to be a better example this year than this story.
This past week, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences released their shortlist of documentaries that will be competing for the nominations in the Best Documentary Feature category at the Oscars next year. Absent from those 15 films is 2016: Obama’s America, the faux-origin story for President Obama that explains how his experiences in his youth have shaped him into a someone who will totally destroy America, for sure. The film’s producer, Gerald Molen, himself already an Oscar winner (For Schindler’s List. I imagine he and Spielberg don’t get along too well anymore), is crying foul over this snub.

‘Pacific Rim’ Sequel Already On Deck

When Hollywood executives are convinced, they’re convinced! The insiders of the upcoming Pacific Rim is so confident that the film would be a hit, they have already greenlit a sequel.
The sci-fi adventure doesn’t hit theaters until next July, and the second film is already in the works? That sounds as though the movie is destined to be a summer blockbuster. Legendary Pictures must be super exciting about what they’re producing on set and decided to push the second film.
According to sources, Guillermo del Toro has mentioned that he’s thinking of ideas for what he might do with the sequel; but also stated that he wants to work on another film in between the two Pacific Rim flicks, if he does return to direct part 2.
“We certainly started tossing ideas for possibilities of a sequel and Travis Beacham and I are writing a proposal of ideas,” said Del Toro, “but at the same time I know I don’t want to do that next. I want to do something else, I want to do something in a different genre that’s not so big.”
Pacific Rim, which stars Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Iris Elba, Charlie Day and Ron Perlman, is slated to hit theaters on July 12, 2013.

‘Walking Dead’ Prompts Man To Shoot His Girlfriend

‘Walking Dead’ Prompts Jared Gurman To Shoot His Girlfriend

A tagline has never been so true.
Aren’t the humans supposed to be on the same side in a zombie apocalypse? Well, AMC’s The Walking Dead has made it very clear that humans cannot be trusted post zombie takeover, and it seems the same goes for real life.

Jared Gurman’s Mugshot

Deadline.com reports that Long Island’s Jared Gurman was arrested on the charge of attempted murder of his girlfriend, Jessica Gelderman, after the couple argued the legitimate possibility of a zombie apocalypse. The argument stemmed from  The Walking Dead’s pilot episode, when the main character, Rick, wakes up

Stars Set to Unite for ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’

Bryan Singer apparently has a knack for bringing people together. According to a recent report from THR, Singer is calling upon original cast members from X-Men and X2 to reprise their roles for his upcoming film, X-Men: Days of Future Past.
So far, both Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen have already agreed to reprise their roles as Professor X and Magneto, respectively. Hugh Jackman, who played the unmistakable Wolverine, is also currently in negotiations. The latest rumor is that Halle Berry and James Marsden are also being contacted, but no sort of confirmation has been produced (we’re still crossing our fingers for Anna Paquin and Famke Janssen).
If these rumors are true, then X-Men: Days of Future Past is set to be quite the superhero movie. Stars from the comic’s reboot, X-Men: First Class, such as James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult are already set to return. To be quite frank, the film seems to have almost as much star power as George Clooney’s The Monuments Men.
The returning actors – from the original trilogy, that is – are rumored to appear in scenes that depict an alternate dystopic future. Because their roles are somewhat fleeting, pay and time commitments are not very substantial. In fact, the report claims that many of the actors are willing to return simply due to Bryan Singer’s involvement. And people say celebrities have no heart!

Black Keys PR 2012 purple L

Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys, fun., Jay-Z, Mumford & Sons, Frank Ocean and Kanye West lead the nominees with six apiece. But first-timers dominate the big three categories.

It's shaping up as the year of the rookie at the Grammys. Of the nominees announced Wednesday for album, record and song of the year, only Taylor Swift previously had been nominated in any of the three top categories.
Meanwhile, Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys, fun., Jay-Z, Mumford & Sons, Frank Ocean and Kanye West lead the nominees for the 55th annual Grammy Awards with six apiece. The Black Keys, Chick Corea and Miguel are next with five mentions apiece.

The nominations were announced during The Grammy Nominations Concert Live!! — Countdown to Music's Biggest Night. The hourlong special, which CBS aired live in the East from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, was hosted by LL Cool J and Swift and featured performances by The Band Perry and Dierks Bentley, Luke Bryan, fun. and Janelle Monae, Hunter Hayes, Maroon 5, Ne-Yo and The Who.
Surprisingly, four of the five nominees for the marquee prize -- album of the year -- are rock acts: The Black Keys' El Camino, fun.'s Some Nights, Mumford & Sons' Babel and Jack White's Blunderbuss will vie against Ocean's Channel Orange. White was nominated for the prize as a member of The White Stripes with Elephant in 2004, but Blunderbuss is his solo debut.
It's the second year in a row that no country act is up for album of the year. Swift's Red was released too late for Grammy consideration; the cut-off date for eligibility was Sept. 30, and her hit album was issued Oct. 22.

Responding to media requests, University of Colorado at Denver released over 2,000 documents related to James Holmes, the alleged shooter in a movie theater rampage in July.
According to the Associated Press, a large number of the documents were redacted, but revealed several new details: Holmes had a brief romantic relationship; one of his professors feared for her students' safety; and students were asked not to speak to media or post to social media about the shooting, but instead refer all requests to campus publicists.
Among the documents not released were 100 emails between Holmes and his friends and family.
Holmes is accused of killing 12 people and injuring 58 at a Cinemark theater in Aurora, Colorado on July 20. The theater is now scheduled to reopen on January 17 in a ceremony that will be attended by Colorado governor John Hickenlooper.

What Critics Are Saying About Wiz Khalifa's 'O.N.I.F.C'

Wiz Khalifa ONIFC cd cover P

The "Work Hard, Play Hard" rapper released his fourth studio album on Dec. 4.

After many postponed release dates, Cameron Jibril Thomaz, better known as rapper Wiz Khalifa, shares his newest music joint with O.N.I.F.C.
With the release from Atlantic Records, the Pittsburgh MC returns to music after making splashes in the headlines with his March engagement to his girlfriend, Amber Rose, and the announcement of their first child at the MTV Video Music Awards in early September.
Collaborators on O.N.I.F.C (the acronym stands for One Night in First Class) include many of his hip-hop friends, from 2 Chainz, Akon, and The Weeknd. Only five out of seventeen tracks on the album are solo medleys, where Pharell, Juicy J and Lola Monroe lend their rhymes.

But after a collaborative project with Snoop Dogg on Mac & Devin Go to High School and his successful third studio album, 2011's Rolling Papers, critics seem disappointed by Khalifa this year. Below is a sampling of what the critics had to say.
Carl Williott of Idolator comments: "Impending fatherhood has not seemed to, ahem, spark Wiz’s lyrical growth. O.N.I.F.C. is full of gauzy, lethargic beats, with slowed-down G-funk riffs and bloops that seem to be coming from melted video game cartridges. Wiz seems to be just fine planting his stake in the land of no stakes: he opened Rolling Papers with 'They say all I rap about is bitches and champagne,' and proceeded to start O.N.I.F.C. with 'Get the cork out the bottle.'”
The Washington Post's Allison Stewart agrees, "'O.N.I.F.C' (which stands for 'Only [Word-We-Can’t-Say] In First Class') is light on beefy hooks, preferring sleepy beats that quickly turn somnolent.  Other songs employ electro-psych whirls and’70s space-age effects in place of anything substantial."

Dennis Haysbert Replaces Michael Clarke Duncan in 'Sin City 2'

Dennis Haysbert Headshot - P 2012

Dennis Haysbert, who spent several years as the U.S. president on Fox’s 24, is in negotiation to play one of the heavies in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.
Robert Rodriguez is directing the movie with Frank Miller, the comic book icon who created the Sin City comics that were published by Dark Horse in the 1990s. (Rodriguez and Miller teamed up for the first Sin City adaptation, a hit back in 2005.)
Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Jaime King and Rosario Dawson are among those returning and Jamie Chung is replacing Devon Aoki for the sequel, which is on a short break from shooting in Austin. (Filming will occur intermittently in December and go full force in January.)
One of the storylines being adapted is A Dame to Kill For, originally published in 1993 and featuring a man named Dwight entangled in a complicated and deadly relationship with a femme fatale named Ava.
Haysbert will play Manute, the brutal and seemingly unstoppable right-hand man of Ava’s husband. The role was played in the 2005 movie by Michael Clarke Duncan, who died in September at age 54.
"Manute is a character that has been part of the heart of the Sin City tales, and the late Michael Clarke Duncan beautifully established that role onscreen," said Rodriguez and Miller in a statement to Heat Vision. "We could not tell the story of Sin City: A Dame to Kill For without Manute and are thrilled to welcome Dennis Haysbert to the cast."
Haysbert is onscreen as the voice of General Hologram in Wreck-It Ralph and appeared in The Details, a comedy starring Tobey Maguire and Elizabeth Banks that just got released via VOD.

Scooter Braun Blasts Grammys Board Over Justin Bieber

Alberto E. Rodriguez/Getty Images for Paramount Pictures
Scooter Braun, superstar manager and Schoolboy Records boss, went on a mini Twitter tirade following Wednesday night’s Grammy Awards nominations announcement.
Writing to his over 2 million followers, the 31-year-old Braun defended his No. 1 client Justin Bieber who received no Grammy nominations. “I just plain DISAGREE,” he tweeted. “The kid deserved it. Grammy board u blew it on this one.”

Bieber’s third album, Believe, was released in June and has seen two top ten singles -- “Boyfriend” and “As Long As You Love Me,” the latter performed on X Factor earlier in the evening -- and another, “Beauty and the Beat” featuring Nicki Minaj, still building.
Perhaps making the snub sting even more, the 18-year-old pop phenom recently swept the American Music Awards, where he won artist of the year, favorite pop/rock male artist and favorite pop/rock album. The November show, aired on ABC, is a fan-voted event. The Grammy Awards, airing Feb. 10 on CBS, are decided by committees of industry peers.

And that just might be the invisible blockade for Bieber who, to paraphrase Britney Spears, is in that sometimes difficult to navigate phase of no longer a boy, and not yet a man. Braun in a way acknowledged this fact in a subsequent tweet, where he wrote, “the hardest thing to do is transition, keep the train moving. The kid delivered. Huge successful album, sold out tour, and won people over… this time he deserved to be recognized.”
Braun, an advocate of myriad causes, in particular his brother Adam’s Pencils of Promise charity, is not one to end a rant on a negative note, however. After congratulating “all those nominated,” including one of his own label’s acts, Carly Rae Jepsen, Braun addressed the scores of Beliebers directly, leaving the fans with a challenge that they'll no doubt meet and overcome: “Looks like we get to stay the underdog a little longer.”

'Tron' Sequel Back on the Grid at Disney

Tron: Legacy
A new Tron is back in development at Disney.
The sequel to the 2010 reboot Tron: Legacy — called Tron 3 in some quarters — is moving a step forward with Disney in negotiations to hire Jesse Wigutow to pen the latest draft of the script.

Joseph Kosinski, who directed Legacy, is attached to helm this installment, which is being developed with a renewed purpose under Alan Horn, who took the reigns of Disney Studios in June.
Some considered the dark and trippy Legacy — which teamed newcomer Garrett Hedlund with Jeff Bridges, star of the 1982 original Tron — a lukewarm performer when it opened in December 2010. But the film grossed $400 million worldwide, good enough to spark interest in prolonging the franchise. With that foundation and a strong brand, Disney believes it can really go for broke with a new movie.
Plot details are being kept under wraps. David DiGilio wrote an earlier draft of the script. Justin Springer, a co-producer on Legacy, is producing Tron 3.

Wigutow is already working with Disney on the adaptation of Peter and the Starcatchers and worked on Parallel, another Disney project being produced by Springer. The scribe, who also wrote Eragon and worked on Relativity’s remake of The Crow and Summit's remake of The Osterman Weekend.
He is repped by UTA, Tobin Babst at Kaplan/Perrone Entertainment, and Sloane Offer.
