Chris Aire and Duncan Mighty Part Ways

After two years of business partnership, popular jeweller, Chris Aire and Port Harcourt based singer- turned-producer, Duncan Ikechukwu Wene Mighty have parted ways.
According to Aire, the partnership has done exactly what it sets out to achieve and, as a result, he’s now withdrawing to focus on his other businesses which are begging for his attention.

Speaking from his office in Abuja, Chris said, ‘This split also gives Duncan Mighty the chance to focus on his home career and continue to develop the young musicians under his tutelage. He is very talented and I wish him all the best’.

A statement by Aire’s camp said,  Aire and Duncan Mighty signed a business agreement in May 2011, to further the career of the dance-hall act and to form the Niger Delta Music and Art Project (NDMAP).
The purpose of the NDMAP is to develop the careers of young up coming artists from the Niger Delta, giving them opportunities to build their career on a scale  not common to find.
In this two-year period, Duncan Mighty was able to fully establish himself as an artiste outside the walls of Port Harcourt, recording and performing with international music superstar such as Shaggy and shutting down tops shows in and out of the country.
“Leveraging his connections with industry’s  heavyweights worldwide, Chris was able to set Duncan up to record and perform with international music superstar like Shaggy ; Shoot and release several music videos on Duncan Mighty and enabled the inauguration of the Niger Delta Music and Art project finding several young artists who are currently being groomed to be future hit musicians like Duncan Mighty himself,”the statement reads. Meanwhile, Duncan Mighty has not reacted to the development.

Actors’ Guild Condemns Kidnapping Of Nkiru Sylvanus As Abductors Demand N100m

Nollywood actress Nkiru Sylvanus has reportedly been kidnapped in Owerri, Imo State along with her personal assistant  this morning, December 16, 2012.

Sylvanus, who is the Special Assistant on public affairs to the state governor was last seen on the set of a movie last night in Owerri. She was kidnapped while she was in her house.

The story was confirmed by Actors’ Guild of Nigeria (AGN) President Ibinabo Fiberisima.

‘We are trying to liaise with her state government to find a solution to it. It’s unfortunate that people can do things like this to people who make them happy‘, the AGN President lamented.

Ibinabo has also told Nigerians to pray for the fair-skinned actress. ‘Please Nigerians pray for her!‘.

Her abductors are reportedly demanding a sum of N100m for her release. We could not readily confirm this as at the time of this report.

The incident comes several days after the release of Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala‘s mother who was abducted in Delta State.

Nigeria’s Tomi Salami Loses Miss Tourism Crown To Russian Beauty Queen

Nigeria’s representative at the 2012 Miss Tourism World pageant, Tomi Salami on Sunday, December 16, 2012, lost the crown to her Russian counterpart, Tatyana Maksimova.

The event which was held in Siam Niramit, Bangkok, Thailand, paraded 60 models from different countries out of which three, Miss Russia, Miss India and Miss Lebanon came first, second and third respectively.

Salami got her ticket to the pageant when she won the Miss Tourism Nigeria at the 2012 MBGN pageant organised on Saturday, May 5, 2012 in Edo State.

'The Hobbit' Scores Record $84.8 Million Weekend

New Line and MGM's The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey kicked off the holiday season in high style, opening to $84.8 million, the top three-day opening of all time for the month of December.

The first in Peter Jackson's planned trilogy, Hobbit opened to $138.2 million overseas for a worldwide total of $223 million. The movie came in ahead The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King in 2003 ($125.9 million).
In North America, Will Smith's I Am Legend previously held the record for best December opening with $77.2 million on the same weekend in 2007.
Hobbit received an A CinemaScore from moviegoers, portending good word-of-mouth. Warner Bros., which owns New Line, is distributing the 3D fantasy adventure, which could earn as much as four times its opening weekend gross through New Year's Day (Christmas films can have especially strong multiples).

Hobbit -- based on J. R. R. Tolkien's 1937 novel and set 60 years before the events chronicled in The Lord of the Rings -- played older, with 58 percent of the audience over 25. Males made up 57 percent of those buying tickets, while younger moviegoers gave the epic an A+ CinemaScore.

7 Films Advance Toward Winning a Makeup and Hairstyling Oscar

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the selection of seven films still in contention to win an Oscar in the Makeup and Hairstyling category at the 85th Academy Awards.

Looper
Men in Black 3
Snow White and the Huntsman
All members of the Academy's Makeup Artists and Hairstylists Branch will be invited to view short clips from the films at an event scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 5.
Nominees for 85th Oscars will be announced Thursday, January 10 at 5:30 a.m. PT. The ceremony will be presented on ABC on Sunday, February 24, 2013.

Last Moment Of Crashed Helicopter

Naval pilots – Commander Murtala Daba and Lt. Adeyemi Sowole – tried in vain to land the helicopter which crashed on Saturday at Okoroba community in Nembe Local Government Area, Bayelsa State.

Governor of Kaduna State, Mr. Patrick Yakowa; the former National Security Adviser, Gen. Owoye Azazi, and two of their aides died alongside the two pilots.

Eyewitnesses said the pilots appeared to have sighted a space at the swampy mangrove, few metres to the  crash site, and made some efforts to land the ill-fated helicopter.

In an unclear circumstance, the helicopter was said to have attempted going up again but in the process, its blades hit one of the palm trees surrounding the area and it came crashing.

It was learnt that Yakowa’s mobile telephone was intact as it kept ringing after the crash.

“When we brought the body out, we started hearing sounds of phone ringing from the left side of his pocket.

We later discovered that calls were coming to the telephone and it could be from concerned persons but no one answered,” a security source, who pleaded anonymity, said.

happens in Nigeria's movie industry popularly
referred to as Nollywood, was given by Stella
Damascus recently in an interview.
The sultry actress was speaking in reaction to the
demise of Enebeli Elebuwa who died on the 5th of
December in India after battling with stroke.
Damascus accused her colleagues in the industry
of playing to the gallery when the veteran actor
was ill and expressed her anger that rather than
show genuine concern, they were busy seeking
means of enriching their own pockets.
"I'm very angry because the people in my industry
are hypocrites. she started. "That man was ill for a
long time in lagos and they turned it into a fanfare.
People would go and visit him and take pictures
with him, post it on twitter, on Facebook, on their
blogs; they used it to make people feel that they
are philanthropists but nobody lifted a finger to
take care of him or help his family.
"They are more interested in politics; who would be
president, how they can visit dignitaries, who would
dash them money. Nobody cares about the elderly
people in the industry. We know how to celebrate
people when they die, but when they are alive,
what do we do for them, especially the sick ones?
"The Delta state government eventually sponsored
him to India. I'm just very pained," she said sadly.

Peter Osaze Odemwingie, the Super Eagles and West
Bromwich Albion striker has disclosed that his wife,
Sarah, is due to give birth to their first child, a son, come
January 2013.

While speaking on his preparation for the Nations Cup
tournament holding in South Africa in January next year,
the Edo State Ukrainian-born forward said that he is
optimistic to make the final list of players for the
competition when the chief coach, Stephen Keshi,
releases the list, adding that the competition will also
hold when his pregnant wife will be due for child
delivery.

"I hope it won't affect my involvement. You can't
predict what will
happen but I hope for a scenario where it will be
easy.
"The due date is about 10 days before the African
Cup of Nations. Babies can be late, or early, but
in this case, I pray it's earlier so everything will
go smoothly. The preparation period (for the
tournament) is usually about 10-14 days.
Sometimes the home-based players start earlier.

That will be discussed soon," the player said.
Osaze was dropped for the Venezuelan match
again the Eagles due to a reported
misunderstanding between him and Keshi which
has been sorted out by both parties.

an actress named Biola Ige chose the hotel as their
preferred sexcapade location few weeks ago.

We exclusively learnt that Emmanuel was in
Lagos for the novelty match between entertainers and
some selected former Super Eagles player in celebration
of World's AIDS Day held on December 1st 2012, which
was a Saturday. The football match took place at
Campos Mini Stadium, Lagos. The match was put
together by Friends Africa's Goodwill Ambassador,
Emmanuel Hyacinth Babayaro (MON). and was tagged
'Play for Life' Novelty Football Match.

After the charity match, Emmanuel took his game
further to the bed with Biola Ige who became the
goalkeeper he was hammering with shots as a tough
striker. This lasted for four days (Saturday to Tuesday).
A source who was in the know of the happenings
between Emmanuel and Biola reliably informed
us that both lovebirds lodged in room number
508 of the hotel. What amused those in the know of this
happening said that Emmanuel was always in the habit
of coming out of his hotel room to eat breakfast while he
leaves Biola inside.
This they explained may be a tactics by Emmanuel not
to raise any suspicion on his 'slaughter' with him when
he comes for his breakfast. Though one of our sources
within the hotel stressed that Emmanuel sees Biola off to
her car whenever the actress is done with the business
of the day but comes back the next day until Emmanuel
left for Abuja on Tuesday, December 4.
