The governor performed the unveiling of the huge Ori-Olokun sculpture at the Ori-Olokun Roundabout, formerly Mayfair Roundabout in Ile-Ife.
He described the monument as a precious heritage of the Yoruba race, and urged the people to protect and preserve it.
Mr Taiwo Olaiya, the Executive Secretary, Ife Central Local Government, under whose jurisdiction the garden is situated, also described the monument as the most famous in history.
According to him, Ori-Olokun monument was discovered in the early 20th century by German explorer Leo Frobenius. "Frobenius could not imagine that such works were of African origin and came up with the theory that this great art was evidence of the lost Atlantis of the Greeks. "He further declared that the Yoruba deity, Olokun, was the same god as the Greek Poseidon. "The monument was further identified as a modern sand casting of a brass, which comprises copper and zinc.
"The name, Olokun, attached to this head refers to thefact that it was dug up in the late 19th century in the Olokun Grove and used in annual rites to honour Olokun ,'' he said.
An Ife priest, Chief Faloba Fagbenro, described Olokun as the goddess of the sea and patronageof bead making, which makes glass bead working an important industry in Ile-Ife .
He recalled that the head of Olokun (Ori Olokun) remained in the hands of the family responsible for the Olokun cult until Oni brought it to the palace for safekeeping in 1934.
The the terra-cotta head of Olokun has been replicated in strategic places of the world, including Latin America, and Europe. The image always brings back to memory the civilisation inthe areas of art and technology that took place in Nigeria and Africa before the British invasion.
Sen. Jide Omoworare, the senator representing Ife-Ijesa Senatorial District, was among the dignitaries that attended the occasion.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, said that Abiodun was arrested on 1 January while attempting to board an Air France flight to Italy at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, southwest Nigeria.
"We have made the first arrest in the new year. The suspect, a guitarist by name Fatoke Abiodun was foundwith 1.575kg of cocaine. The drug was discovered in the false bottom of his luggage during the outward screening of passengers to Italy," said ,NDLEA Commander the Lagos Airport, Mr Hamza Umar
The agency said the 62-year old grandfather with four wives and many children, is helping narcotic investigators handling the case.
"Fatoke has owned up to the alleged crime blaming his involvement on financial hardship," said the agency's spokesperson, Mitchell Ofoyeju.
NDLEA quoted Fatoke as saying: "I played for King Sunny Ade for 30 years before I was unceremoniously retired in 2007. I was unprepared and without severance money I saw the bitter side of life."
He said his drug trafficking attempt is his first as he didit out of frustration.
"Because at my age I could not provide for my family. I am ashamed of myself," he was quoted as saying.
NDLEA Chairman, Ahmadu Giade described the involvement of Fatoke in drug trafficking as sad and disappointing.
"It is sad and disappointing for a grandfather to be involved in drug trafficking. This is a bad legacy to his children. This is a good start for the agency in the year and a sign that the days ahead will be tough for drug traffickers. The agency will continue to handle every case in accordance with the NDLEA Act," Giade was quoted as saying.
The suspect will be charged to court for unlawful exportation and possession of narcotics, NDLEA said.
It has however been discovered that none of this 'able bachelors' is actually the man after Tiwa's heart, not even with a pole closeness.
We can reveal to you for free that Tiwa is said to be having a romantic affair with her manager. According to the source who dropped this gist, what has now metamophorsized into a romantic relationship started as a working relationship but later developed into romance.
T Billion as the manager is referred to, is said to have been dating Tiwa for about two years now. Before the guy started dating Tiwa, he was once romantically linked to popular actress, Annie Macaulay now Annie Idibia. Annie and the guy were said to have dated eachother years back when Annie's relationship with Tu Face crashed and she vowed not to have anything to do with him again until they later reconciled.
It was however gathered that the duo took time out to cement their relationship shortly before the end of 2012. Balogun wasn't willing to confirm their union. He said, "It is just a speculation"
It is however, interesting to note that neither Noah norDakolo's name was on the flight manifest. It is unclear how the two artistes intend to justify their claims in the face of stark reality that they weren't in any way connected to the flight in which the late statesmen were airlifted. Given that the lust for fame is a powerful aphrodisiac, it is understandable that Noah and Dakolo would be desperate for publicity of any kind, but for them to seek acclaim and media mention off the misfortune and demise of a towering statesman smack of ruthlessness and unforgivable shallowness unbecoming of public figures in their mold.
According to an insider, "It's unfortunate that whenever there is a mishap of this nature in the country, people often emerge to give narrow-escape testimonies, most of these, nobody can confirm. Most of them are attention seekers, and pathological liars. It's shameless. I saw that helicopter on that day, only twice. The first time, it came to pick, yet again, a 5-star General, it must have been then, Azazi called forthe helicopter to pick him. The second time I saw it, it came to pick Azazi. The information minister had departed the venue over an hour before the Navy helicopter came for Azazi. Governor Yakowa decided tofly with Azazi, ditching his private arrangement beforehe and others met their death.
It's laughable that a struggling singer, Dakolo, who was billed to perform at a time, long after General Azazi had departed the event also claimed that "God saved him". Saved him how? Is he a General? Is he Azazi or Yakowa's aide? In what capacity was he supposed to fly with Azazi that 'God saved him'?"
The leggy queen of beauty, Banke recently announced her new status formally on Facebook, her friends, colleagues and well wishers have started bombarding her facebook wall with their congratulatory messages and requesting for their invites for the proper wedding.
In a recent interview with a celebrity magazine, Kollington Ayinla slams K1 over the claim that he is now the Oga Fuji (leader of all Fuji stars).
Hear him, ''Who made him leader? He can only become leader if Sikiru is no longer alive (of course, he is dead) and I am no longer around. That is if the other elders accept because there are still fuji musicians who are older than he is. Suddenly, he has now opened his mouth to say he is 'Oga' of all of us. Does he want to kill me or am I not older than him in age and profession? How can you be Oga fuji over me when I am still alive and in music?'' Kolington asked rhetorically.
The Kwara-born singer charged again, ''where was Wasiu when Barrister and I were reigning in Fujimusic? He was a parker (a band boy) with Barrister.''
Meanwhile, when K1 was contacted to comment on the issue, he responded to Alhaji Kollington Ayinla's through his music manager, Percy Ademokun, his mouthpiece of long standing.
''People should mind their own business and stop using Wasiu's name to get undue recognition. K1 is doing his own thing and playing good music. If musicians either young orold want to sell their albums, they should not use the name of Wasiu to sell the album. Anyway, we are not surprised.
Barrister is dead,so there is nobody Kollington will rival except Wasiu,'' was the comment we received.
Tonto, who believes that some people have been paid to destroy her image, cursed all her detractors and said God will destroy them.
She says, "Yes! Someone is behind this controversial thing.....and God will destroy them by the grace of God!"
The letter later stated as follow, "you people said;
1, "After the noise generated by her new tattoo last year", what is there in her tattoo to talk about...if not someone pay for it?
2, Tonto continued with her 'wild lifestyle, what is yourconcern about her lifestyle let her leave as any other person as she have the right to do everything she think with her life!
3, stepping on people's toes and damning her critics. Can you tell us the people that she steps on their toes? So that we will know her crime and believe what you paying and gossip monger write? And how do she damning her critics...in which way and how?
4, She was also alleged to have slept with the boss of Sifax Group, Dr. Taiwo Afolabi for N5m, I think the matter of sleeping with people is everywhere! What of Mercy Johnson... she too slept with some men for some money before she got married why can't you gossipers write anything about that?
5, Also is her newly released singles, Hi and Itz Ova, did not help matters.....yes to said the truth her voice in the song is not good and not hot....but why can't you correct her by telling her the wrong in the songs instead of writing rubbish about her?
6, her foes romantically linked her to the Kukere crooner, Iyanya who squealers said was seeing Ghanaian leggy actress, Yvonne Nelson. Oh my God! What type of gossip mongers are you people? is this Tonto polite or Kukere crooner lyanya that dumps the Ghanaian leggy actress for her or are you trying to do the job that someone pay you stupid people to do?"
Well, for a some minus errors corrected by us so as you readers can understand the writer, wepurposely left the letter like this for you judgment.
He explained that things have changed from when he started out till now, ''so many things have changed. You hardly see audition notices like before and it affects the upcoming artists that want to join Nollywood. They can now bring anybody from anywhere!
They don't mind if he or she is registered with the Guild and more; how about those who registered for years that have not seen even extras (waka-pass) to play! Are they fools? It's avery good thing for new artistes to come up butthey should do it the right way; from auditions you'll get the best.
These days they call on the phone, if they want to shoot a movie. Some artistes buy gifts or paymoney, so they'll get roles in movies, what a shame. So many of them are desperate and can do anything to appear on screen. But I don't really blame them somehow because things are not done the way it should be done.
If they bring auditions back like it used to be things like that will reduce. In the industry there are so many unnecessary competitions and so manyother things," he said.
