Paramount Picks Up Low-Budget Sci-Fi Project 'Equinox'

Adam Mason and Simon Boyes, who wrote theupcoming Jason Blum-produced thriller"NSFW," are penning the screenplay.
Paramount's low-budget genre Insurge label is goingsci-fi with Equinox , which is being written by Adam Mason and Simon Boyes.

Project details are being kept secret but it is being described as " Dead Calm in space," according to sources. Calm , released in 1989, was an enclosed thriller set on a boat which pitted a married couple against a murderer. It starred Nicole Kidman, SamNeill and Billy Zane .

Stefan Sonnenfeld of Sunny Field Entertainment, who worked on Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunter , is producing with Bryan Brucks . Sunny Field's Sarah Perlman Bremner is executive producing.

Mason and Boyes are Brits who are now living in Los Angeles. The duo previously wrote NSFW, a low-budget thriller produced by Jason Blum and directed by Joe Johnston ( Captain America ) that is in post-production and will be released by Universal.

Mason and Boyes are repped by WME, Brucks of Luber Roklin Entertainment, and attorney Sean Marks of Myman Greenspan.

'2016: Obama's America' DVDs Mailed to Hundredsof Lawmakers.

"The movie has been a good predictor of Obama's behavior and of the policies these lawmakers will be dealing with, so we sent it to them," says filmmaker Dinesh D'Souza.

While President Barack Obama was summing up the state of the union during a nationally televised speech Tuesday night, hundreds of copies of a DVD featuring an interview with his impoverished half-brother were being mailed to senators, congressmen, the governors of all 50 states and the nine Supreme Court justices.

One copy of the movie, 2016: Obama's America , alsowas mailed to the president at his White House address and another went to Vice President Joe Biden .

The film tries to make the point that Obama's agenda is bad for America and that the rationale for his policies stems from a hard-left ideology that was instilled in him by the example set by his absentee father.

One of the more compelling scenes is an interview with George Obama , the president's half-brother who was living in a hut near Nairobi, Kenya at the time.

2016 was released theatrically in July and raked in$33.5 million, enough to make it the second biggest political documentary in U.S. history, right behind Michael Moore 's Fahrenheit 9/11 .

While Lionsgate Home Entertainment is distributing the DVD, it was not involved in the decision to mail about 600 copies to legislators and other governmental power brokers.

Instead, the initiative was spearheaded by the film's star and co-director Dinesh D'Souza , who shelled out $393 to mail the DVDs, which will arrive in different packaging than the official Lionsgate release. While the DVDs were shipped Tuesday, recipients won't get them for at least a week, given that parcels to high-ranking members of the U.S. government typically are screened by security personnel looking for anthrax, radiation and other hazards.

Despite the obvious marketing potential of such a move, D'Souza cites a different motivation.

"The film laid out a bold thesis that no one else was advancing," D'Souza told The Hollywood Reporter."The movie has been a good predictor of Obama's behavior and of the policies these lawmakers will be dealing with, so we sent it to them."

Accompanying each DVD is a letter from D'Souza that reads:

"Since 2012 was an election year, I have a hunch that you weren't able to slip away to the movies. Youmay have missed a film that I wrote and directed called 2016: Obama's America. It was my first venture into filmmaking, and I was very pleased that it became the #2 highest grossing political documentary in history. After its theatrical run, the film was released on DVD. I'm pleased to present you with your own personal copy. I hope you will find it interesting and compelling, and I welcome any feedback you may have. Thank you for your service to our Nation."

Lionsgate had not commented on the initiative.

12 higher institutions of learning have emerged top to vie for the four definite slots available for the much talked about Campus Connect: 2face & Friends Tour 2013 .

Star acts expected to hop on the ride with Africa's finest include, but not limited to, Olamide, Dammy Krane, Roc ksteady, Sheyi Shay, Durella, Capital FEMI, Harrysong, Sound Sultan, Crystals, Basket Mouth, Timi Dakolo and many others.

Voting for the definite four slots, on Idibia's website, will close on February 20 by 10pm.

Omorogbe says the tour time table complete with venues, dates, artiste line up and after-party venues will be released after the close of voting.

Toyin Aimakhu New Movie Is Worth N17Million

Okiki Films and Music Production, a multiple award-winning Nigerian film marketing company, has embarked on a huge budget production for a Toyin Aimakhu film. The actress is happy at the moment, sources say. The film, Oritoke, which focuses on the ability indisability of an autistic child, is said to have been completed and ready for distribution .

Directed by Bayo Alawiye, the new movie is said to have cost the financiers about N17 million.

"I am on top of the world, I am happy that we have finally finished the job. You can see all over me that I am very tired. I played the part ofa girl with autism. My father has autism, it is a hereditary problem. I inherited it from my father but mine was a worse case. My father was very rich and my mother married him for his money .

Things got bad and she left us. It was just my father and I. I had a best friend who happened to be an imbecile. However, my character has a talent, she can drum very well. She thinks like a child, she has the brain of a six-year-old although she is about 30 years. The film is loaded, so educative and highly didactic."

On the choice of Okiki Films for the financing, she said, the company has become a household name in Nigeria and all the films done by the marketing outfit are films that teach morals andare very sensible and interesting.

It would be recalled that Okiki Films emerged the fastest growing marketing film company in the year 2012 with 11 different awards in its kitty.

WizKid Starts New Record Label

Weeks after his sudden departure from Empire Mates Entertainment (EME) owned by Olubankole Wellingtonaka Banky W, talented Nigerian artist Ayo Balogun, Wizkid has started his own new record label tagged Star Boy Entertainment .

In an attempt to get Wizkid back to EME record label, sources said Banky W contacted Wizkid's mother to speak to her son but the star boy had already made uphis mind to be on his own.

Star Boy Entertainment 's first record "Azonto" will released on the 15th of February, 2013, a day after valentine's day.

The father of one is now a fully grown man.

He also said Star Boy Entertainment will take care of his other businesses like his clothing line, Star Boy Clothing, Star Boy Cap, Star Boy Shoes.

Wizkid 's recording company will also take care of the grooming and management of upcoming artists as Star Boy Management.
